Consumer confidence in Italy rose 1.62% in July after reaching a seven and a half year low in June. Confidence is, however, still low. It is 5.74% below the level reached a year ago and 15% below the peak reached in June, 2001.. Only 16% percent of the respondents expect economic conditions to improve over the next twelve months, 46% expect little or no change, 34% expect conditions to worsen and 4% are unsure.. In appraising their present ability to purchase goods, only 6% of the respondents found conditions favorable, 36% rated them unchanged, 53% found them unfavorable and 5% were unsure.
